Thompson Fire & Emergency Services (TFES) Fire Chief Dennis Benson is launching an Adopt-a-Hydrant program to help ensure fire hydrants are accessible when needed during the winter months.
Snow-covered hydrants can delay firefighters when every second counts so TFES is asking residents, businesses and community groups to “adopt” a nearby hydrant by keeping it free of snow and ice – with three feet of clearance in all direction and a visible path from the street.
Adopt-a-Hydrant participants will be entered for a chance to win monthly prizes and a grand prize of a $1,000 Amazon gift card.
To register your hydrant, email tfes@thompson.ca or call the fire hall at 204-677-7916. Your work will make a real difference and help keep Thompson safe.
The Adopt-a-Hydrant program runs from December 1 until May 1, 2026 and the deadline to register is November 30.
