Publisher, Thompson Citizen Newspaper
You’ve heard Thompson is the place to go for career opportunities, and Lynn couldn’t agree more. Lynn is a proud Thompsonite who’s life shows so much of what the city has to offer, from professional development in a friendly and connected community to beautiful scenery and closeness to nature.
Coming to Thompson
I came to Thompson in March 1972, following my husband who moved here in 1969 to work for Vale, which was Inco back then. I came with our son who was only 10 months old at the time!
My life in Thompson
I started out working for Byron Travel Agency, and then was fortunate enough to be hired by the City of Thompson, where I worked from 1978 to 2008. Since then I have been the General Manager for the Thompson Citizen Newspaper.
Throughout my time in Thompson I have been able to raise a family and have a career. I don’t think I would have been able to achieve the same professional development if I was in a larger center. There are so many opportunities for people who want to advance their career here, and it’s just a great place to live.
The best thing about Thompson
The people and sense of community are easily my favourite thing about Thompson. When my husband and I came here we were far away from our families, so the friends we made became our families, and those friendships have been everlasting.
I go for long walks early in the morning, when it’s serene and peaceful, and I meet people jogging or walking, and everyone is friendly. It really is the people who make the place.
Where to go
I love Paint Lake, it’s like heaven. We have a remote cottage out there and I love being close to the water.
Vision for Thompson
I would like to see us grow our retail component, we have a lot of opportunities for new shops and services, especially in areas like appliances. I can see lots of ways that people can start opening new shops here.
I also see Thompson growing for families. This is a great place to raise children, we have an excellent school system, with a great high school and UCN is growing so much, we really have it all.
