Smitty has lived in Thompson for almost 30 years and makes the most of it every day. Whether he’s enjoying the beautiful views, local entertainment, or playing guitar, Smitty is an advocate for all of the opportunities Thompsonites have in the arts!

He came to Thompson on his honeymoon!

My wife and I came to Thompson in 1991 and are now looking at our 29th year in the city! It’s a great place. We wanted a change of life, and came here on our honeymoon first and fell in love with the beauty, lakes and the fact that there are so many people from all over the world, something we never grew up with. The town had a lot going for it, so we decided to take a chance, and now we are proud Thompsonites!

He plays a lot of music, and uses it to help the community!

With Music Makers Productions, we take care of weddings, Lecture Theatre, production shows and do what we can to keep our community vibrant and musical.

I’ve formed guitar clubs, played in bands, and been involved in the music community for a long time. It’s a great community for music.

If there’s a cause and fundraising needs to be done, we get involved through the production and audio and videos.

His favourite part of Thompson is forest that surrounds it!

The diversity of the forest and the people that are here. Walk ten feet from the backyard and you’re in the forest. You’re seeing nature first hand, right at you, it’s amazing.

His favourite spot is the Miles Hart Bridge!

My favourite spot in Thompson is just looking off the bridge where Popeye’s is. Looking out that way, seeing the water rushing and then looking back, you see the city submerges from out of nowhere, especially when you are coming from further north. You can see the lights glowing as you leave the forest.

He believes Thompson can become a hub for the arts!

Thompson could really be the hub. Come for entertainment, do some shopping, get your groceries, walk around and see some of the things on spirit way path, see the wolf statues and centre for wolves. We are a short ride from Churchill, so if you want to see the polar bears and whales, the train is here, and it’s a short ride.

I can see us expanding and making Thompson the hub of the north for entertainment… Come see the entertainment, stay for the wolves!
