Family life and the beautiful outdoors are just two of Raj’s favourite things about living in Thompson. Raj is a proud Thomponsite that embraces all of the things Thompson has to offer the north, from business opportunities to a strong sense of community, and a lifestyle perfect for families of all ages.

Coming to Thompson

I have lived in Thompson for 24 years. I came in January, 1990 for a job, with 2 kids under the age of 3. It was a wonderful experience bringing them up in this community. People are really understanding and you have a lot of time to dedicate to your kids.

My life in Thompson

Thompson has this sense of belonging, a community feel, and that’s what encourages me to stay here.

I’m a business owner and I do some consulting on the side. I have served on different boards over the years, I’m involved in the Thompson airport authority as a treasurer, and I am the Chamber president. I have had a variety of positions and job opportunities in Thompson, including working with First Nation organizations and Northern businesses.

The best thing about Thompson

The wilderness, the nature that surrounds Thompson and the peace of life. You don’t have to deal with traffic issues, you have the luxury of going home for lunch. You don’t have that in the big city with rush hour. Here, when you are done work you can drive 20 minutes and be at a very serene spot either at the lake or in the bush.

Where to go

The Millennial Trail, I love walking along the trail.

Vision for Thompson

I see Thompson as a big regional centre, improving on what we have as the hub of the North, serving all the communities. I see us as serving Nunavut and maybe the Yukon. I see Thompson as the winter weather testing capital of the north.

As a Thompsonite I love where I live, and it’s the pride in what we have and our effort to keep our way of life that makes me so proud to be a Thompsonite.
