Coming to Thompson

I’ve lived here pretty much all 40 years of my life. I moved away a couple times, went to art school in Vancouver, then moved back and have been here since.

I have always loved Thompson and have had great support here. When I finished college, I started working for myself, and I got so much help with my small businesses here.

My life in Thompson

I have come to the point now where I am a successful painter and tattoo artist, but that doesn’t mean I settle. I have this eagerness to learn and help people. I love teaching workshops and working with youth, and I like being around people who are pushing to make our community and region in the north better.

I’m going back to school at UCN. The location is great and it offers what I want, all of the support was there. I could have gone somewhere else, but when it comes down to it, I would be away from the people I want to serve, help and work with.

The best thing about Thompson

The thing that makes me proud to be a Thompsonite are the people. The people here are great and tough. We have a diverse community with different beliefs and cultures, but we all know how great Thompson is and how precious the land here is.

Thompson is more than just Thompson. We have a great attitude and don’t lose focus, we keep moving forward and deal with our issues. That’s what makes Thompson great: the people.

Where to go

I like going to the gym - Laban Fitness, the recreation centre, and sometimes I sneak over to the skate park before the kids get there! There’s a lot of great spots around town.

Vision for Thompson

I’m excited about everything happening here, in Thompson, in the North. I think we’re doing a great job growing from a social and cultural aspect, and want to see us move forward in a responsible and sustainable way.

We need to think about migration North, especially with climate change. I ask people to have hope, and believe that together we can turn Thompson into a ‘Hub of Hope’.
