About Us
Workforce Utilization
The last decade has seen significant strides in local hiring strategies, and the majority of affected workers Vale’s operators have been hired from within northern Manitoba: This means that for the first time, northern Manitoba will have a surplus of skilled and dedicated labourers ready dive into a variety of sectors. Thompson 2020 will work with industrial and community partners to retrain and repurpose these labourers, and create the skills and opportunities they need to build new lives here at home.
Attract and Retain Residents
From its roots as a young mining community, Thompson now has four generations of residents that have been born and raised in the community. Thompson 2020 has the opportunity to create tailored initiatives and infrastructure to ensure Thompson is an enticing option for residents in all stages of life, from millenials planning families to retirees planning their golden years.
Business (Re)Development
Over the last decade, Thompson’s investment in workforce development has laid the foundation for a new wave of local investment and business opportunities. Building on the work of TEDWG, Thompson 2020 will continue to pursue new economic opportunities in diverse sectors such as regional services and tourism, under the leadership of empowered local contractors and developers.
