In 2010, the City of Thompson in partnership with the Thompson Recycle Centre, as well as Federal and Provincial governments made several improvements to the facility in order for it to process materials brought in from the City of Thompson’s new automated recycling collection. This allows the facility to process upwards of 1,000,000kgs of material annually. The TRC employs 13 workers.

The Thompson Recycle Centre (TRC) provides the City of Thompson with high quality residential and commercial recycling services by sorting and processing recyclable materials. There are three recycling depots located throughout Thompson. Cliff Park on Princeton Drive, the corner of Weir Road and Cree Road, and the TRC at 16 Severn Crescent. Glass can also be dropped off at these sites. As it cannot be placed in your curbside bins do to safety reasons.

The TRC continues to be an active partner in the Northern Regional Recycling Initiative. This initiative co-ordinated by North Central Development, a regional community economic development corporation, involves recycling operations in these northern communities: Gillam, Leaf Rapids, and Paint Lake, with the TRC acting as the central recycling facility.

Material no longer needs to be sorted, glass is not allowed in your curbside bin, we also ask that you flatten all boxes, rinse containers and remove labels & lids from all glass. No bags of material are allowed in your curbside bin. But if you are dropping recyclables off at a depot we encourage you to use clear or blue garbage bags. The TRC’s hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
