Councillor Penny Byer 

Councillor Penny ByerPenny Byer moved to Thompson in 1978 to open up the CBC North Country studio. With a Diploma in Creative Communications and certificates in marketing, public relations and journalism, Penny has worked in a variety of media. She recently retired from Vale where she was responsible for coordinating community and employee communications strategies and projects. 

As a former business owner, Penny has also served as President of the Thompson Chamber of Commerce. Her involvement in the community sees her currently serving on the boards of the Ma-Mow-We-Tak Friendship Centre and Thompson Lions Seniors Manor project. 

In her capacity as City Councillor, she has chaired the Human Resources Committee, the Development Review Committee and the Recreation Committee. She is also the City liaison to the Boreal Discovery Centre, Community Futures/North Central Development and Communities in Bloom organizations. 

She has also been involved with several non-profit organizations as both a leader (first Chair of the Thompson Relay for Life) and as a supporter (canvasser for Heart and Stroke Foundation). 

Penny‚Äôs extra-curricular interests include her horses, fishing, hunting and gardening. She has played active roles in both the Thompson Horse Owners Association and the Thompson Wildlife Association.
