Thompson Fire & Emergency Services (TFES) operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week  providing fire protection and emergency medical service to the city and surrounding area. To achieve this, a compliment of twenty-four career Fire Medics and five Emergency Medical dispatchers.  We have one Senior Communication Officer who overlooks the dispatch aspect of our service.  The remaining 4 EMD dispatchers are divided into 4 platoons, each platoon working a schedule of two 10 hour day shifts, two 14 hour night shifts followed by four days off. In case of incidents requiring additional manpower, off duty firefighters and nineteen auxiliary firefighters are contacted.

TFES provides the following services to the citizens of Thompson:

  1. Fire suppression and extinguishments to residential, commercial, and industrial structures, as well as wild land fires in the local area; 
  2. Preservation and protection of life and property from injury or destruction by fire; 
  3. Investigation to cause and origin of fires; 
  4. Rescue of persons that require expertise in water and motor vehicle collision rescue; 
  5. Providing emergency medical services, including Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support; 
  6. Hazardous materials response; 
  7. Fire prevention and public education; 
  8. Inspection of businesses and residences;

TFES strives to perform all it’s responsibilities with the utmost regard for the life safety of its personnel and citizens.

Additional duties performed by staff are equipment maintenance, fire safety inspections throughout the city, fire safety education and general training aimed at maintaining and learning skills required to provide the best services possible.
