The Local and Regional Identity Sub-Committee of the TEDWG has been meeting since January 2012 to discuss issues related to culture, sense of place, and tourism in Thompson and the region. The Sub-Committee has focused on a conversation about the real identity and experience of Thompson and the region and how this experience can be better communicated both internally (within Thompson and the region) and externally (in Manitoba, Canada and internationally). A priority identified by this group is the need to define a clear Place Branding Strategy for the Thompson with input from residents of Thompson and the region and visitors.
Vale is funding the process and the roundtable work is being supported by rePlan, a Canadian firm with decades of experience helping resource-based companies and communities adapt to change. A place branding consulting team has been created for this project that includes On Three Communication Design – an award-winning Canadian place branding firm, and local marketing and communications expertise through Beke Communications.
This project is an initiative of the Thompson Economic Diversification Working Group’s (TEDWG) Local and Regional Identity Sub-Committee.
