Mayoral Proclamations


WHEREAS Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling neurological disease. Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world with an estimated 100,000 Canadians living with the diagnosis and there are approximately 3,500 persons with MS residing in Manitoba; and

WHEREAS The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Manitoba Division, funds MS research, offers programs and services to people with MS and their families to enhance their quality of life, plus educates the public and health professionals about the disease; and

WHEREAS Multiple Sclerosis is an unpredictable disease. Currently there is no cure, but each day researchers are learning more about what causes MS and are zeroing in on ways to treat and prevent it; and

WHEREAS The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Manitoba Division, is not a recipient of government funding, and the success of defeating the disease relies wholly on the efforts of funds generated through our efforts to fulfill the Society’s mandate;

NOW THEREFORE by virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of Thompson, I hereby proclaim the month of May, 2017 as “MS Awareness Month” in the City of Thompson

 

By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of Thompson, I hereby proclaim April 28, 2017 as “National Day of Mourning” in the City of Thompson

 

By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of Thompson, I hereby proclaim May 1 - 7, 2017 as “Mental Health Awareness Week” in the City of Thompson
